• To build the capacity of young people by involving them in management and decision making.
• To develop educational, physical and social skills and foundations of friendship through a variety of activities and events.


AYF's Strategy Planning 2012-15 laid out the following objectives:

As an employer

Objective 1: 
AYF will continue to employ an effective fulltime Youth Worker

To be achieved by providing:

• Sufficient funding for at least two years salary and accompanying costs
• Adequate line management and support including retrospective and prospective work planning and staff development plan
• Enlisting sufficient numbers of volunteers – need for 10+ more
• Sufficient resources for activities in the operational plan

Governance of the Company

Objective 1:

AYF will identify and appoint (a) trustee(s) with company secretary experience who will:

• Identify and direct AYF in conformity with the articles of association as in AYF Constitution.
• Ascertain compliance with AYF AGM meeting formats

Objective 2:

AYF will formally adopt defined roles and responsibilities of trustees, executive volunteers, operational volunteers and formally adopt and adhere to policies for the good functioning of the organisation

Finances

Objective 1:

AYF will raise sufficient funds to meet their budget needs

To be achieved by providing:

• Dedicated fundraiser(s) will keep fundraising ahead of budgets needs. Raising grants for specific funding will be multi track (at least two simultaneously)

Objective 2:

AYF will approve and annual detailed budget at the Annual General Meeting

To be achieved by providing:

• The treasurer will provide a draft budget for the ensuing year at least two months prior to the AGM in April
• AYF executive will review quarterly the current budget/expenditure status
• Fundraiser(s) and Treasurer will meet more regularly.
• Fundraisers will search for three year grants for YW salary to give stability
• Possibility of building some reserves in the future.

As a charity

Objective 1:

AYF will provide a safe, warm environment in which young people can meet.

To be achieved by providing:

• Youth work activities in Brodick church hall, with weekly Friday night sessions and further nights as per needs of young people
• Young people will help with preparing sessions and tidying resources

Objective 2:

AYF will build the capacity of young people by involving them in management and decision making.

To be achieved by providing:

• At least two young people will join the AYF executive committee
• Young people will continue to be engaged in planning discussion meetings regarding activities on a three month basis
• Members will be involved in at least three fundraising events per annum to help develop a feeling of ownership
• 6+ young people will work towards officially accredited Dynamic Youth (10-14) and Youth Achievement (14+) awards whilst attending
• Youth Work Project Manager will liaise with partners at Arran High School and Community Learning & Development in line with 2011 HMIE suggestions

Objective 3:

AYF will develop educational, physical and social skills and foundations of friendship in the young people through a variety of activities and events.

To be achieved by providing:

• A variety of sports tournaments and events that make use of the Auchrannie and Ormidale facilities
• Interest nights that respond to the needs of the young people
• Activities that develop young people skills such as film making, cooking etc
• Continued joint working with other groups

Objective 4:

AYF will evaluate the progress made in achieving these objectives.

To be achieved by providing:

• An external evaluator to measure the success of AYF in achieving our objectives
• Oversight from the AYF Executive, reviewing and approving quarterly updates from the Youth Work Project Manager
