£911 raised at Strabane House fundraiser

Arran Youth Foundations paid tribute to Lady Jean Fforde when they hosted their annual fundraiser at Strabane House on 22nd September 2018, raising £911 in doing so.

The event, which has taken place every year since 2012 when Lady Jean first offered to open her beautiful gardens to raise funds for the group, saw visitors enjoy home baking, teas, coffees, a grand raffle and musical performances from local young people.

The charity were delighted to host another successful event, not only to raise funds for the work they do with the island's young people, but also to mark the passing of one of Arran's best loved figures.

Graeme Johnston, AYF's Youth Work Project Manager, said: "All of us at Arran Youth Foundations have lovely memories of Lady Jean, one of our greatest supporters, not least her final public appearance at our open day in September 2017, just two weeks before she sadly passed away.

"Her incredible generosity towards our organisation was best exemplified in her request that there be a collection at her funeral service to raise funds for AYF, a gesture we will never forget.

"When we discussed fundraising plans for 2018 with our committee and with the young people, everyone agreed that we wanted to continue with the tradition. When we approached Lady Jean's son Charles and his wife Lynn, it became clear that they had been thinking the same and they were touched at the thought.

"We are delighted at how this year's event has gone and can only thank the Fforde family for allowing us to continue with this wonderful tradition. It means a great deal to AYF."
