2017 restaurant night success

The young folk of Arran Youth Foundations held their fourth annual restaurant night on Tuesday 21st March 2017, with diners hailing it a great success again.

Held in the Auchrannie's 1869 restaurant, the evening was the celebration of another successful year of AYF's after-school cooking club. The event saw 16 young people take over the 1869 kitchens and prepare a three-course meal under the watchful eye of the Auchrannie chefs, Colin and James.

Nearly 50 invited parents and guests tucked in to the following menu:

STARTERS
*Spiced butternut squash soup
*Tomato and avocado bruschetta with homemade bread

MAINS
*Haddock risotto, with leek, crisp pancetta and a poached egg
*Homemade ravioli stuffed with sweet potato and cream cheese, in a tomato napoli sauce

DESSERTS
*Eton mess with strawberries, meringues, strawberry coulis, and raspberry ripple ice cream made at Arran Dairies by the young people
*Chocolate brownie served with honeycomb

Participants ranged from S1-S6, with some taking part for the first time and some for their fourth. All involved attend AYF's weekly cooking club on a Monday afternoon, which sees young people learning culinary skills, experimenting in the kitchen and often hosting local chefs for workshop sessions.

With guests leaving donations on the evening, the young people raised £440 for AYF.
