Christmas card fundraiser update

2014 has got off to a great start for Arran Youth Foundations; our successful Christmas card delivery scheme raised over £150.00!

Throughout December, the young folk who attend the group delivered any cards dropped into Bilslands to addresses in Brodick. At 30p a card, the kids spent their evenings delivering hundreds of cards in the build-up to Christmas to raise their total.

The charity's Youth Work Project Manager, Graeme Johnston, said: "This is the second year running we have run such an initiative and it was a roaring success again. Thanks must go to Alistair and Allison Bilsland who are great supporters of the organisation, to everyone who used the service, and to the young members of AYF themselves for their hard work, tramping the streets of the village in freezing conditions with only their torches to go by!

"The money will go to the costs of the activities we deliver. We usually use any money that the young people have raised themselves to fund the group's trips to the mainland during school holidays."

2014 promises to be a busy year for the group, based in Brodick church hall. Sessions run from 4.30-6.30pm on Mondays (cooking) and Wednesdays (film-making), and from 7.00-9.00pm on a Friday (drop-in). There are also plans to finish our wood-carving project at Brodick castle with the help of Marvin Elliot later in the year. Everything that AYF runs is open to all young people of high school age
