Microsoft Youth Hub project update

The Microsoft Youth Hubs project in which Arran Youth Foundations was lucky enough to participate as one of the 30 pilot clubs has now finished.

UK Youth, in conjunction with Microsoft, are now looking for a further 35 groups. In doing so, they are again looking to provide access to IT for thousands of young people, as well as training for three selected young people at each group to become peer educating 'IT Champions'

The project was a great success for the young people of Arran Youth Foundations, with hugely increased access to IT, fantastic opportunities for our IT Champions to grow in confidence and ability, training workshops, and of course the thousands of pounds worth of hardware, software and online resources we were very grateful to receive.

Microsoft + Yammer: Connecting with the Community from Yammer on Vimeo.

The above video gives some detail on the project and how social network Yammer helped to connect projects across the UK. Arran Youth Foundations are featured several times.

Firstly, at 00.39, Emma makes mention of our film-making club (although wrongly refers to us as based in Edinburgh, as that's where she met us!)

At 1.40, a story we shared in the Success Stories network on Yammer can be seen. That was regarding a nice bit of press for our young people about the Microsoft Youth Hub in Youth Scotland's summer edition of their quarterly Magnet magazine. You can download a PDF copy of the newsletter here. We are featured on page 9.

1.44 in, a clip of a video made by one of our young people can be seen. This was a video produced after a day of workshops at the Microsoft Edinburgh offices and can be viewed below.

We are very grateful to UK Youth and Microsoft for allowing us to participate in the MYH project. We have since received continuation funding and will be producing a short video on our film-making club for UK Youth in the coming months. Watch this space.
